Quotes of the Month: July 2013

Quote of the Month: "He’s about as mean as a (expletive) kitten, I think he doesn’t realize he’s white and not black, that’s a huge problem."

-Sharon Osbourne on Justin Bieber

Bizarre Quote of the Month: “I was 'abducted by aliens' in the desert two weeks ago.”

-Baron Davis

Dumb Quote of the Month:

"Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago."

-Barack Obama (Martin was not raised by rich white parents)

"We killed people who are rats, and the two biggest rats were sitting right next to me."

-Stephen "The Rifleman" Flemmi referring to Whitey Bulger

"We hope everyone can exercise their First Amendment right to free speech, then get tired and go home."

-LAPD Spokesman Andrew Smith on the Trayvon Martin protests

"I think he has more reason now than ever to think that people are trying to kill him because they express they're trying to kill him, all the time, every day, on my Twitter feed, on the Internet."

- Robert Zimmerman Jr.

The death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy.  Not just for his family, or for any one community, but for America.  I know this case has elicited strong passions.  And in the wake of the verdict, I know those passions may be running even higher.  But we are a nation of laws, and a jury has spoken.  I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son.  And as we do, we should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to widen the circle of compassion and understanding in our own communities.  We should ask ourselves if we’re doing all we can to stem the tide of gun violence that claims too many lives across this country on a daily basis.  We should ask ourselves, as individuals and as a society, how we can prevent future tragedies like this.  As citizens, that’s a job for all of us.  That’s the way to honor Trayvon Martin.

-Obama

“And so it was for a few weeks until the race-baiting industry saw an opportunity to further the racist careers of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the Black Panthers. President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder, et al, who then swept down on the Florida community refusing to admit that the 17-year-old dope smoking, racist gangsta wannabe Trayvon Martin was at all responsible for his bad decisions and standard modus operendi of always taking the violent route.”

“The only racism on that night was perpetrated by Trayvon Martin, and everybody knows it."

-Ted Nugent

"As a matter of fact, I think he’s a white racist god with a problem. More importantly, he is carrying a gun and stalking young black men.”

--University of Pennsylvania Professor Anthea Butler

 “Enough was enough.”

-Governor Rick Snyder on Detroit

"I have made some mistakes."

-Ryan Braun

“He said ‘I don’t give a fuck’ and meant it!”

-Lars Ulrich on Ritchie Blackmore

“...we discussed the fact that Ho Chi Minh was actually inspired by the U.S. Declaration of Independence and Constitution, and the words of Thomas Jefferson.”

Political Quotes of the Year 2012

Quote of the Year:

Dumb Quote of the Year:

“If you got a business-you didn’t build that.”

"What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex -- what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."

don't even know enough to realize how little you know. Thus an administration

lenders whom to lend to, and the military how to fight wars."

-Thomas Sowell

Every year, we waste a lot. We wasted a lot of time."

-JoAnn Watson embarrassing Detroit once more

"There will be blood."

-One of Jack Pinto’s classmates

Stupid Quote of the Month: "Is he a brother or a cornball brother?  We all know he has a white fiancée. There was all this talk about he's a Republican, which, there's no information at all. I'm just trying to dig deeper as to why he has an issue. Because we did find out with Tiger Woods, Tiger Woods was like, I've got black skin, but don't call me black. So people got to wondering about Tiger Woods early on."

-Rob Parker on RGIII

And the rest:

Ernie Harwell

From his HOF induction speech:

Baseball is the President tossing out the first ball of the season and a scrubby schoolboy playing catch with his dad on a Mississippi farm. A tall, thin old man waving a scorecard from the corner of his dugout. That's baseball. And so is the big, fat guy with a bulbous nose running home one of his (Babe Ruth's) 714 home runs.

There's a man in Mobile who remembers that Honus Wagner hit a triple in Pittsburgh forty-six years ago. That's baseball. So is the scout reporting that a sixteen year old pitcher in Cheyenne is a coming Walter Johnson. Baseball is a spirited race of man against man, reflex against reflex. A game of inches. Every skill is measured. Every heroic, every failing is seen and cheered, or booed. And then becomes a statistic.

In baseball democracy shines its clearest. The only race that matters is the race to the bag. The creed is the rulebook. Color merely something to distinguish one team's uniform from another.

Baseball is a rookie. His experience no bigger than the lump in his throat as he begins fulfillment of his dream. It's a veteran too, a tired old man of thirty-five hoping that those aching muscles can pull him through another sweltering August and September. Nicknames are baseball, names like Zeke and Pie and Kiki and Home Run and Cracker and Dizzy and Dazzy.

Baseball is the cool, clear eyes of Rogers Hornsby. The flashing spikes of Ty Cobb, an over aged pixie named Rabbit Maranville.

Baseball just a came as simple as a ball and bat. Yet, as complex as the American spirit it symbolizes. A sport, a business and sometimes almost even a religion.

Why the fairy tale of Willie Mays making a brilliant World's Series catch. And then dashing off to play stick ball in the street with his teenage pals. That's baseball. So is the husky voice of a doomed Lou Gehrig saying., "I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth.”

Baseball is cigar smoke, hot roasted peanuts, The Sporting News, ladies day, "Down in Front", Take Me Out to the Ball Game, and the Star Spangled Banner.

Baseball is a tongue tied kid from Georgia growing up to be an announcer and praising the Lord for showing him the way to Cooperstown. This is a game for America. Still a game for America, this baseball!

#19 The Supremes

The Supremes were Motown’s flagship band in the 1960's. The act is America’s most successful vocal group in history with twelve number one hits. At their height, The Supremes were nearly as popular as the Beatles. The Supremes laid the foundation and groundwork for subsequent all female groups. En Vogue, TLC, Destiny’s Child and others owe their success to the formula put forth by Motown’s Supremes. As the sixties wore on, Diana Ross began to receive the lion share of attention and soon became the headliner. This caused dissension within the group and within Motown as a whole. Ms. Ross left in 1970 and the Supremes continued on until 1977.

Rock n Roll Moment: Diana Ross and Barry Gordy dated for a time causing all sorts of problems. The Supremes were jealous of the relationship and it caused tensions. Other Motown acts, such as Martha Reeves (imagine that), also felt Gordy paid too much attention to The Supremes and not enough on them.

Essential Supremes:

Where Did Our Love Go? (1964)
More Hits by the Supremes (1965)
I Hear a Symphony (1966)

Supremes’ Top 10:
