Genghis Khan united the nomadic Mongolian tribes in 1206. Afterward, Khan began his conquest of the known world. Mongol armies swarmed across Eurasia. No one seemed able to stop the warlord. Along the way, he massacred entire populations in order to terrorize potential adversaries. The Mongols used their experience as skilled horsemen and transformed it into unbeforeseen battlefield tactics. By the time of his death in 1227, Khan controlled much of Asia and China.
