This movie
scared me as a kid and is one of the best films of the 1950s. A group of
scientists at an arctic research station are visited and attacked by an alien
being. James Arness stars as the alien, but you can’t recognize him without the
makeup. John Carpenter remade the film in 1982 starring Kurt Russell. In 2001, the Library of Congress selected it
for preservation in the National Film Registry.
