#69 Wilson Pickett

Detroit’s Wilson Pickett’s raspy gospel style was the second coming of Little Richard. His career broke with “In The Midnight Hour” in 1965. His success continued into the 1970s. His influence is felt on works by Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, The Stones, Aerosmith, Booker T. and the MGs, Hootie, Bruce Springsteen, Los Lobos, and many others. His music inspired the 1987 movie, “The Commitments.”

Rock n Roll Moment: Pickett liked his guns. Being temperamental and guns don‘t mix.
